You'd think the traffic signs would show more
linguistic precision, especially on the border
where diction's so important. The notice usually says
"No Pedestrians" but sometimes
"No camine por la pista" depending on the local
voting preference. Neither figures on an economical
scooter ridden by a girl in a spaghetti-strapped dress
with a flash of ink riding on her shoulders
in contravention of local ordinances. Today, my sign says
Stop (April 8-July 4): Don't go off half-cocked.
Use your blinkers. Sometimes, you're loaded
with more gears than necessary. Try reverse.
Frankly, horoscopes did not predict the bank would break
100 on the marquee, or that the scooter girl would be so hot.
