Day 175: Books

The secret to a happy marriage is
To keep books in the bathroom. Couples reading
From handy hardbounds solo ponder, quiz
Each other, wander through the hallways pleading
With memory for euphemism; they
Pull up the blankets, watching wrestling on
The bedroom television -- mostly faked
And yawning entertainment. They're withdrawn
From it, and cuddle back to back while phoning
Their last few moments in, both texting no-one
Significant on modern cellphones. Zoning
Each other out, they're too fatigued to yawn,
Yet take a spell to fall asleep. The pills
Don't help, and reading offers passing thrills.

Hahaha! La, two things mainly.
First, for your title, read John Florio's sonnet in Mains' anthology just Sir Walter Raleigh's one sonnet in the main text. (Though yours is a rather different angle, methinks.)
Second, this got me thinking...and inspired a sonnet! Like you wanted to know or read it? If you do, let me know.
It is an interesting discussion that reminded me of another friend whose been married some time now. Books in the bathroom are the solution? Too delightful for the perspective, with great imagery. Me likes.
